How beneath the bottom of my boat should I place the prop, it is a 16 ft.: dory with a widht of 43" ?

Posted under Dory Boat

This is a 16′ dory that I plan on adding a motor well to. It is about 19" to the shear, and the width is 43". It is a doubleender, and very light. Let me know, as I have bought a very lightweight 2hp outboard for it . Thanks, Tim Brown

If you are building the well inside the boat to mount the motor, the motor mounting board should be high enough for the cavitation plate to within + or – 1/2 inch of the bottom of the boat.

model boats (wooden)?

Posted under wooden model boat

Where can I find model wooden boats on the net? Please add links if you can. Also, I’m looking for something under $500. Just something to display in the house/study.

Try these sites

If you want to see more just do a search (Google or Yahoo, etc.) and enter "Display model wooden boat" into the search engine parameters. You will get links to thousands of them.
Good luck.

A force of 39.5 N is required to pull a 10.1 kg wooden toy boat at?

Posted under Uncategorized

A force of 39.5 N is required to pull a 10.1 kg wooden toy boat at a constant velocity across a smooth glass surface on Earth. What force would be required to pull the same wooden toy boat across the same glass surface on the planet Jupiter?

Jupiters gravity=2.528g
friction proportional to normal force, so
39.5*2.528=
99.86N

Anyone know of a good wooden boat building book?

Posted under How To Build A Boat

I’d like to try building a wooden boat, but the book that I have is too advanced for a novice like me. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good book with plans for a novice builder? Thanks.

Check out West Systems Epoxy. They have a publication called "Wooden Boat".
